Blackboard Transact is the successor to the widely deployed Blackboard Commerce Suite (Blackboard Transaction System - Unix Edition and Blackboard Transaction System - Universal Edition 2.X). This latest evolution of our core technology delivers a host of advancements in Release 3. A release in which our solution has evolved to become ”the” platform for campus commerce and security management.
With a completely redesigned user interface with Web-like search capability, a new centralized application that eliminates the use of individual modules, the best functionality from previous Unix Edition and Universal Edition releases, and new video surveillance and mass notification capabilities, Blackboard Transact brings together a powerful set of capabilities for enhancing student engagement. But it can also now play the role of foundation to the other technologies you want to run to enhance the security and convenience of the student experience at your institution.
Simply put, there have been major advancements with our technology. So we’ve given it a new name, Blackboard Transact. Blackboard Transact delivers greater interoperability that allows our capabilities to stand alone, or be combined to deliver even more value through seamless campus management and a richer student experience.
So the Blackboard Transact platform now draws from existing and new capabilities to deliver two powerful and integrated solutions for campus administrators - Commerce Management and Security Management. Solutions that we think go well beyond the former categories and boxes (Transaction System, Community System) and create a more flexible foundation from which to deliver new solutions for your future needs.

Does Blackboard Transact mean that anything changes for my current Blackboard implementation?
No, the Blackboard Commerce Suite (Blackboard Transaction System - Unix Edition and Blackboard Transaction System - Universal Edition 2.X) stays the same and will still be supported in the same way it is today. Once you move to Release 3, you will be on the Blackboard Transact platform, providing the critical capabilities you rely on today in the form of other solutions from Blackboard (i.e. the Blackboard Community System).
