e-Learning"
WASHINGTON, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Blackboard Inc. (Nasdaq:
BBBB), a global leader in education technology, today announced additional
details for BbWorld(R) '09, its global user conference and one of the largest
e-learning gatherings of the year scheduled to take place July 14-16 near
Washington, D.C. in National Harbor, Maryland.
Award-winning journalist Lester Holt, weekend anchor for NBC Nightly News
and the co-anchor of the weekend edition of TODAY, will give a keynote
address, joining executives from Blackboard and Sir Ken Robinson, noted author
and expert on education and creativity, who are also scheduled to keynote.
During his prominent career, Holt has reported on events ranging from
presidential elections to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to hurricanes Katrina
and Rita.
Nearly 2,000 members of the e-learning community are expected to attend,
including representatives from K-12, higher education and professional
education from nearly every state and more than a dozen countries. Together,
they will engage in concentrated training, professional development and
networking opportunities designed to help them maximize current investments in
technology and more effectively address some of their most urgent academic and
institutional priorities.
More than 100 members of the ANGEL Learning community will attend BbWorld
for the first time. Alongside members of the Blackboard user community, they
will receive an update on progress since Blackboard's acquisition of ANGEL in
May, and plans for the combined company to strengthen its support for
e-learning at Blackboard and ANGEL institutions.
"We are excited to join with members of the Blackboard and ANGEL
communities for the first time at BbWorld this year, and we look forward to
sharing more on our plans to better support the important work they are
doing," said Ray Henderson, President of Blackboard Learn and former Chief
Products Officer for ANGEL. Henderson will join Blackboard CEO Michael Chasen
in the company's executive keynote session.
At BbWorld, executives will also honor members of the Blackboard and ANGEL
Learning client communities with the official presentation of the Blackboard
Catalyst Awards and ANGEL Impact Awards. Each year, the award programs
recognize outstanding contributions to the global e-learning community by
highlighting work judged to be among the best in various categories of
e-learning including course design, collaboration and innovative approaches to
online and technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
"The individuals and institutions honored by the Blackboard Catalyst
Awards and the ANGEL Impact Awards represent the very best in e-learning,"
said Henderson. "BbWorld is an important opportunity to recognize their
meaningful contributions to teaching and learning, given the event's focus on
training, development and the sharing of best practices."
