Doing more with a diverse and dispersed campus population.

Blackboard Solution
Many institutions decrease costs and streamline processes by using the Blackboard Academic Suite to facilitate managing faculty and staff performance reviews, promotions and hiring. Blackboard clients use the Blackboard Community System for decision-making in key university committees. And organizations within the Blackboard Community System have been established for major campus decision-making groups, thus streamlining communication. Other institutions use the Blackboard Learning System to bring faculty evaluations online, making performance appraisal more efficient

Providing Flexible Programs for Non-Traditional Students Related Items

Challenges
Many institutions are grappling with how to address changing student demographics, a globalizing economy and industry requirements for new skill sets.

Blackboard Solution
To meet the challenges of educating students in today's environment, institutions are improving their modes of operation. They are providing flexible degrees and lifelong learning programs for non-traditional students. Institutions are also providing services and a sense of community for students who work fulltime. The Blackboard Learning System provides many tools to make this happen. For example, the Adaptive Release functionality in the Blackboard Learning System gives instructors the ability to create custom learning paths for students. The multi-language capabilities of the Blackboard Academic Suite enables institutions to run multiple languages on the same system, thus allowing students to view content in several languages.

Streamlining Multiple Sections Of Large Courses

Blackboard Solution
The Blackboard Content System streamlines managing multiple sections of a large course. For example, an instructor may create a learning object for use in 15 different sections of a large course. On most campuses today, that would mean creating 15 different files, one for each section. With the Blackboard Content System, the learning object is created and stored just once. The instructor then simply links to it from all 15 course sections. The result: more effective use of the instructor's time. When the instructor wants to update the learning object, he or she does it in one place and only one time.

Evaluating Student Progress with New Tools Related Items

Challenges
Institutions are under increasing pressure to have consistent evaluation methods and to document performance. Finding better ways to evaluate student progress is a topic on the minds of educators around the world.

Blackboard Solution
The Blackboard Academic Suite gives educators many new tools to evaluate student learning. Blackboard's e-Portfolios are particularly valuable for institutions, providing online repositories for demonstrating academic achievement. Many Blackboard clients are using e-Portfolios to show that students have met accreditation requirements in their fields of study. The Blackboard Academic Suite also has a Performance Dashboard that allows instructors to see key information and outcomes for all students. This tool makes it much easier for faculty to view progress and to ensure that students are achieving desired goals.
